At age 18 Orest enlisted in the Canadian Paratroops 1st Airborne. He saw action in Holland and returned safely after the war to work on the farm. In 1952 he married Corinne Agnew. Orest farmed and also worked for the Canadian Correction Service in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and later in Agassiz, British Columbia becoming a firearms instructor before retirement. Orest and Corinne were parents to seven children.
